Freifunk (German for Free Radio) is a system and movement for creating wireless mesh networks including:

• A modified version of the OpenWRT firmware for wireless routers which allows you to relatively easily build mesh networks of routers using OLSR. Such networks can be surprisingly scalable involving hundreds / thousands of nodes and made using normal off the shelf routers.
• Communities of enthusiasts who connect to enable free exchange and transmission of data between participants.
